Isaiah 40:4 (KJV) Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
We should not exalt our troubles, but rather the God in the middle of them. The low places in our lives may seem like valleys, but it is in these places where the Lord should be exalted most because he uses them to prove himself to us. He shows up as our help when we do the opposite of what our flesh wants to do during trials. We would never know how God can help us if we never had a problem. He becomes everything we need in any situation. The Lord is a healer in sickness, a provider to the needy, a comforter in sorrow and so much more.
Our praise should not be contingent on the kind of situation we are going through. If we learn to praise God regardless of our circumstances, we will not stay in the low places for very long. Facing our problems with praise and worship to God changes our mental focus from only seeing the negative aspects of them to trusting the Lord to bring about a positive resolution. As we are tried and tested in our tribulations, the spiritual strength we gain throughout the process will bring us to higher places in God.
