Judges 4:19 (KJV) And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.
When God speaks to the ministry, the message that is received is fresh and exactly what the congregation needs. The preached word provides nourishment to the souls of people like a baby needs milk or an adult needs meat to survive. Every message from the word of God touches all people in some way. Our souls are saved through hard preaching that gets down into our hearts, speaks to our current circumstances and helps us to grow as children of God. The Lord uses change to strengthen and mature us. The word of God is designed to speak to our natural senses. Without it, we can be ruled by the thoughts and feelings of our flesh more easily.
Just like a baby is not meant to survive on milk permanently, God wants his children to mature spiritually by understanding his word more and more deeply as they grow. The more we desire to know God through his word, the deeper he can touch our hearts. He draws closer to those who want a personal relationship with him. Jesus Christ came to give the apostles more than milk. He showed us that our own fleshly nature is the enemy and taught us how to conquer it by destroying it on the cross. We can use his word to rebuke every thought and feeling that does not line up with the will of God.
