Genesis 29:31 (KJV) And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.
Leah was unfavored by Jacob, but fertile in the eyes of God. She would go places in God that her sister Rachel could never reach. Holding onto idols will stop us from reaching our full potential in God. He uses our hardships as an avenue to show us the things that are taking his place in our hearts. The fertility of our hearts is something God deeply cares about. Being spiritually fertile comes from our ability to hear and respond to the preached word of God. In order to produce good spiritual fruit, the ground of our hearts must be broken up and prepared to receive the seed of the word properly.
A consistent prayer life at home and at church breaks up and softens our hearts for the preached word. When our hearts are right with God, our hardships begin to change for the better. The situations we think are hopeless start to come alive again. Our hearts must receive the word of the promise before the Lord can fulfill it in our lives. We must believe he will keep and is able to perform his word. If we let the word be sewn in our hearts, we will reap a harvest we have never seen before. Our miracle is determined by how we receive and respond to the preached word.
